Privacy policy

The Deen Map is a free, volunteer-run website. We do not ask you to create an account, we do not sell data, and we do not show adverts. This page explains the little information that is used when you visit, and why.

Analytics and cookies

With your permission, we use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and how people find the site. This helps us decide what to write next. Google Analytics records things such as the pages you visit, roughly where you are (country or city level), the type of device and browser, and how you arrived at the site.

Analytics cookies are only set if you choose Accept in the cookie notice. If you chooseDecline, or make no choice, no analytics cookies are stored; Google may still receive basic, cookieless signals that cannot identify you. You can change your choice at any time:

Settings saved on your device

Some features remember your choices in your browser’s local storage. This stays on your device and is never sent to us:

• your chosen city for prayer times, and today’s timetable so it loads faster;
• your Qur’an reading settings (translation and text size);
• your dhikr counter and target;
• whether you dismissed the Jumu’ah reminder, and your cookie choice.

You can clear these at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

Services we use

• Prayer times. To show prayer times, your browser asks the AlAdhan API for your chosen city. Only the city name and calculation settings are sent.
• Qibla finder. If you choose “Use my location”, your browser shares your position with the page only. It is used for the calculation on your device and is not sent or stored.
• Videos. Videos on the kids’ page load from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode, and only after you press play.
• Contacting us and enrolling. If you message us on WhatsApp, email us or fill in an enrolment form (Google Forms), we receive what you send. We use it only to reply to you and to run the programme you join, and we do not share it.

Your choices and rights

You can decline analytics cookies, clear the data saved in your browser, and ask us what personal information we hold about you (for example, from a message or enrolment form) and ask us to delete it. Emailhello@thedeenmap.com and we will respond as soon as we can.

Children

Parts of the site are for children, but we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Kids’ programmes are enrolled through a parent or guardian.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
